30th Anniversary Convention CANCELLED

July 9, 2020

Alternative Online Event and Fundraiser Planned for Friday, August 7th

NAEBA has spent the last several months planning the 2020 Annual Convention & International Antler Competition, amid the meeting limitations related to COVID-19. We know many of our members wanted to attend and celebrate our 30th anniversary.

However, with great regret, given the ever changing state, county and city health guidelines regarding social distancing, attendee capacity limits and travel limitations, the NAEBA Board of Directors feel compelled to cancel our convention planned for Colorado Springs on August 6-8, 2020.

As an alternative, NAEBA is planning for a video membership meeting update and awards presentation on the morning of Friday, August 7. Later that evening, NAEBA will hold a single online fundraiser that will include fun auction and benefit semen lots, followed by our Elk Marketplace Sale lots. The Competition Committee and Board of Directors are still considering plans for some fashion of an antler score center to allow members to receive an official score.

We know this is not what any of our members wanted to see happen, but this alternative allows NAEBA to conduct the required business of our annual meeting and hold our fundraising auctions. Fundraising at our convention is a significant income generator for the association that sustains operations for the following year and we thank our members in advance for your donations and auction support.

Members will receive an email and letter in the mail with details and instructions on how to view and participate in the virtual membership meeting and online auction. If members have a computer with internet connection or a smart phone, they should be able to participate in all activities.

NAEBA is renaming the Convention Sponsors to NAEBA Partner Sponsors, which will continue to be promoted for the rest of the calendar year. NAEBA staff will contact each existing sponsor to explain the change. If requested, their sponsorship money will be credited to their account or fully refunded on August 17.

Anyone who paid a pre-registration or booth fee for the Colorado event will be contacted to see if they would like their fees credited to their account, make a donation to NAEBA or receive a full refund. Full refunds would occur on August 17.

Regarding our Board of Director elections, ballots for the five regions with elections have been mailed to voting members. However, we ask ballots only be mailed back to the NAEBA office. Nominations Chair Ken Anderson has appointed Past President Brian Wagner to be at the NAEBA office at 8AM on Friday, August 7 to count the board election ballots. The election results will be announced during the virtual membership meeting.

Again, we are deeply saddened our 30th anniversary event cannot take place. But NAEBA must consider the safety of our members and attendees. We thank you for your understanding and support of the alternative format and look forward to seeing you all in 2021.

Travis Lowe, NAEBA Executive Director

Bill Mayes, NAEBA President
