Directors Look Forward to Kansas City Convention July 31-August 2
HOWARD LAKE, MN- The North American Elk Breeders Association has reached a new milestone of twenty-five percent membership growth since last August.
NAEBA has employed an aggressive campaign, inviting elk ranchers all across Canada and the United States to join the association. Many of our new members are new to the association and many are returning members from more than a dozen years ago. Membership growth has come from numerous states and provinces, but the latest surge that showed the most increase came from Alberta, Missouri and Indiana.
Executive Director Travis Lowe said NAEBA should be proud of its growth and positive direction. “We have a good team with dedicated people and the association is focusing on building the industry. We believe the growth in membership is a result of our members knowing this industry truly appreciates them; after all our members are this association’s greatest resource.”
NAEBA is committed to working with all the states and provinces to ensure that only common sense regulations are in place. In addition to working on regulation reform, NAEBA has financially supported proactive initiatives including the new ACA Public Relations Campaign and Keith Warren’s “Truth about CWD” documentary.
Elk markets have shown strong signs of improvement especially when compared to the last several years. Velvet has reached at least $35 a pound in many areas for the first time since 2001. Hard antler and meat sales have grown substantially as new markets and public interest has been generated. Trophy bull and breeding stock demand has grown tremendously in both Canada and the United States.
“We are hoping this trend continues,” said Lowe. “NAEBA has ambitious plans for the industry’s future. NAEBA and the elk markets are back and we hope everyone can come celebrate with us in Kansas City next month at our annual conference and membership meeting.”
